We live in a strange time, where hope and despair seem to be daily occurrences. We wanted to let you know we are here for you… We have had our fair share of hope and despair recently just like everyone else but the key to getting stronger and surviving these difficult times is believing that hope always follows despair.
The trick is looking for the ray of sunshine and not walking straight past it!
Appreciate the small things and the big things don’t seem so bad. We are lucky, every day is a blessing and the wonderful thing about this sustained period of lockdown’s and restrictions is people have reconnected with nature. We have all been out for walks in our local parks, seen and appreciated the changing seasons and wildlife on our doorstep.
The message we are trying to get across is that during these unparalleled times of isolation, mental health issues, and financial hardship. There is help out there, first, you can always help yourself! Second, you can seek help. There are many organisations that are offering help, such as SignHealth, the Samaritans, and Rethink who provide a range of support and information services based on a postcode search.
What do we mean by helping yourself? Your attitude or mindset is critical to overcoming pain, hardship, and depression. If you allow it to control you, the effects can be devastating.
Feeling weak, hopeless, or depressed is ok! It’s what you do next that is most significant. Feeling down is an opportunity to show strength. Feeling depressed is an opportunity to find joy somewhere else. Change is as good as a rest, so they say… if it’s not working, change it. That includes your mindset. You control how you think, don’t let your thoughts control how you feel.
Our theme this month is ‘Resilience’. Be tough, be strong but remember it’s ok to feel low with no energy or enthusiasm. This is natural, just as nature has cycles, so do we. Always remember - high follows low just like day follows night.
